eCoaching: Connecting Educators through Technology (FETC 2010)

Over three years, technology staff at the Appalachia Regional Comprehensive Center worked with staff at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to roll out a series of professional development activities supported by common technologies that culminated in online peer coaching groups supporting each other throughout the year. Come see how you can use online book studies, webinars, and social networking tools to support your coaching efforts.

Using Technology to Meet the Needs of English Language Learners (ISTE 2010)

The new National Educational Technology Standards from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) emphasize using technology to promote skills such as creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, and critical thinking and problem solving. Teachers who have grown up with technology, from instant messaging to Facebook, may have basic technology skills but can benefit from learning appropriate pedagogical applications of those skills. This higher-level skills become more difficult when working with the growing population of students who do not speak English. This session will provide hands-on practice with a range of common technology tools, many free or low cost, to support instruction of English language learners (ELLs). The new ISTE NETS will be explored and methods for modeling activities with ELL teachers will be practiced.
