My Portfolio

It's important for educators in the 21st Century to demonstrate their knowledge and skills using 21st Century tools and methods. Portfolios are recommended by organizations I belong to, such as the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the e-Learning Guild. And when my favorite blogger, Tom Kuhlmann who writes the Rapid e-Learning Blog, suggested that all instructional designers should have a portfolio, I knew it was time to dust mine off and get it back online.

The International Board of Standars for Training, Performance and Instruction (IBSTPI) publishes instructional design competencies in the following four areas:

  1. Professional foundations
  2. Planning and analysis
  3. Design and development
  4. Implementation and management

There are 24 competencies grouped under these four areas. If you are familiar with these competencies, I hope you agree my portfolio artifacts help demonstrate both the essential and advanced competencies developed by IBSTPI.

My portfolio provides a selection of products and services I've helped to develop. I have chose to organize each artifact around six features rather than trying to identify how each addresses the 24 comptencies developed by IBSTPI. I hope this makes them easier to review. These six features are:

  1. Purpose
  2. Audience
  3. My Role
  4. Challenges
  5. Strategies
  6. Outcomes
